Announced as the opening section of a "novel-in-progress," providing "the atmosphere in which the 'characters' are to appear — and disappear," Does the Secret Mind Whisper? was published by City Lights Books (San Francisco) in April, 1960 as the third of a trilogy of distinctly formatted broadsides. It was preceded by Second April and the Abomunist Manifesto. Printed offset at the Troubador Press (San Francisco) in an edition of one-thousand copies and presented as a single leaf (89 x 19 cm) of white wove paper folded into sixths (19 x 14.75 cm), printed recto and verso with the final two panels serving as title cover and colophon respectively.
