The first number of THIS, published in 1971 by Robert Grenier and Barrett Watten, concluded with several essays by Grenier: "Robert Creeley: A Quick Graph"; a review of Creeley's Pieces; reviews of Gertrude Stein's Lectures in America and Edward Lear's Complete Nonsense Book; and "On Speech" (often considered to be the founding manifesto of Language Poetry).
