Charles Bernstein

Bernstein's third book, Shade was published in 1978. It was the first book from Douglas Messerli's Sun & Moon Press (College Park, Maryland), issued as "Contemporary Literature Series, no. 1" . Side-stapled, with an illustrated cover by Susan Bee. Edition of 500. The book was included, reset, in the collection Republics of Reality: 1975-1995 (Los Angeles: Sun & Moon, 1996).
